I've recently gotten interested in messenging.
to tell you the truth, i don't think there is much diffrence with the 2 messengers.
although, on msn at least it is easier to see who is online
I think it's easy enough to see who's online on windows messenger, just make sure your contacts are sorted by offline/online status. <P>
Most people use MSN/windows messenger, but a fair people use AOLIM or AIM. Same thing, just referred to differently depending on the person. I find AIM to be fairly accessible, in fact it's accessibility has come along quite nicely with newer versions of JAWS, but I still think I have more friends on MSN.
I don't have any trouble seeing who is online with Windows Messenger. I haven't tried Yahoo, AIM or any of the others, but I'm one of those people who likes to find something I can use and then just stick with it and don't need every new thing or update that comes along.
I have started to use the new Windows live messenger. It is the newest MSN messenger. If you have the newest JAWS, 7.1, it works great. I like some of the features of it.
Msn and Aim, I use them both with the Miranda client. Basically Msn is for blind people, aim is for college students and old people.
I've heard that there's not much of a difference between windows messenger and msn. I personally tried msn, but it didn't work at all with my jaws.
I have used windows messenger and msn and it's all the same. I also use fire on the Mac which allows me to deal with aim, windows messenger/msn and yahoo messenger. OH joy! oh happy day...
Windows messenger and msn messenger don't really show much of a difference. However, if you do sort your contacts by online and offline, that will solve your problem in windows messenger about the contacts.
I use windows messenger, aim and yahoo. Basically msn has more features but arn't very accessible, so I stick with windows messenger.

I must chuck my hat in with the Windows messenger fans. I'm like Becky AKA buckeye cat in so much as, if I have something that works I'm really not fussed with changing it. Windows messenger quite nicely just stays the same and it does what it is supposed too regardless of what screen reader, or version of screen reader, you happen to be using.
MSN messenger keeps changing and you have to keep upgrading your screen reader to keep up with it and yet really what for? A few fancy extras is all. Certainly nothing so important that I feel the need to start messing round with everything just so that I can access things that, in the end, I'd probably hardly use anyway.
well, I just recently got back into xp, so yeah. I tried windows messenger but it wouldn't let me sign in on my laptop, so I downloaded 7.5. I should download aim and yahoo again, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I agree with what Harp said. Although I still downloaded MSN Messenger because a friend asked, but I really don't use the features it has and so if it got to the point where it was inaccessible again, it wouldn't be a big deal to me. I use the MSN Messenger once in awhile, but I use Windows Messenger most of the time because it's much simpler to use. Anyway, for extra features, I have the Plus thing, which it good enough for me. *smile* Now if I could only figure out how I could get the MSN sounds to replace the Windows Messenger ones; that's one thing I do like from there. *smile*
hey people. i love the new windows live messnger and the new Messenger plus live plugin, tinkerbell, have u tried goin on messenger plus web site and seeing if there any sounds and stuff u can download and use in windows messenger?. i am a true I.T geek as in, i want all the new updates and new programes when they come out, windows messenger is too simple for me, it dont do anythin 4 me and the sounds r just so poo on there. *grins*
Yeah, messenger plus was what I was talking about. I have that and put it to where it's supposed to update automatically, or at least to where it'll let me know when to update, but it hasn't done that in several months. I might go back to that website though to see if there's anything new that I might like to put in.
Personnally, I'd suggest Windows live messenger beta 8.0... I use it with Jaws 5.0 and a powerbraille40 display and I loooove it. It is a way better than msn 7.5, which was just crap with Jaws... I still have 19 invitations if you are interrested in trying it... gimme a shout if ya want.

Hi! I'm so computer iliterate that I don't know how to use any of the programs mentioned! But I'm interested in learning if anyone is interested in teaching me! I'm a pretty good student for an old lady! Hope to hear from some of you!
I tend to use windows messenger because it comes with windows and works fine with hal.
I don't really see the point in downloading something that allows me to nudge peoples screens and have smilies when i would never use it.
The only thing that would make me use msn is that you can't voice chat between msn and windows messenger, but i also have skype so i dont need to atm.
BEN.
Okay, it's stupid question time. What about irc, is that the same sort of thing, and does anybody use it anymore? My daughter used to love it, but I haven't heard of it in several years.
In response to some questions, yes, you can voice chat between Msn and windows messenger. As for irc, it’s still around, but I don’t think it’s as popular as it use to be. There’s a program that I sometimes use called mirc with speech and it works with jaws. You can download it from www.thefudge.net
hi,
blbobby, i have mirc with speech and sometimes use it. I haven't used it in a week or more, i've sort of backed off of it because i get tired of channels where there are people's nicks but more idling and multitasking than talking, but i'm hanging on to it so i can check and see how things are going with it. As for windows messenger and msg messenger, i just can't understand why i could voice chat on msn messenger at 33.6 kbps on my old computer, but with windows messenger on my new 6 month old computer, at 50.6 kbps, people break up every other word, and i break up on them too. yes, i'm on dial up, but i was on dial up under windows 98, and my old computer, but i could still hold conversations on older versions of msn messenger, but can't under windows messenger. I wonder if its a windows messenger thing, and if i'd beable to voice chat without all the break up on msn messenger 7.5? I really don't understand this. I have skype, but only have 4 contracts with it. i've actually had voice chats on it with 2 people at a time, but it can be a bit iffy on dial up.

Mostly, I like using 5 in one messenger programs like Miranda and speech unfriendly Trillian which combine AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN, and Yahoo all in one program. Most of my friends are on MSN though, so I'm debating just going back to one messenger again. I liked Miranda, but it started getting unstable and needing this and that plugin updated here and there and you even need a plugin to download updates for your plugins! Trillian doesn't do that so much, but when I'm using MSN, I get a frequent disconnect error because it claims my password is invalid and I need to reset it, grr! Is there anyone that uses multimessengers like Miranda that would go back to strictly MSN or are you happy with multi messengers?
I like msn because I like sending voice clips and stuff
Windows messenger is pretty much the same as msn, but I use msn personally because I can send files and use the voice chat feature it has. With windows messenger, I couldn't do that. Not sure why. It had the options, but wouldn't let me use them. So, I'm on msn.
Hey! I use Windows messanger, it's downloaded onto my laptop. I use to use AIM, until it started not reading it. I don't know what's wrong with it? Is it the version I'm downloading? (when I re-installed it,) it only gave me the Classic AIM for windows 98, and I have Windows XP. (and it's not my version of Jaws) does anybody know why this is?
Thanks,
Amber
MSN and Windows Live messenger allow you to use voice and file sending features from behind a network address translator. Windows messenger will not. Also, Windows Live messenger allows you to appear offline and send offline messages
Hi all,
I have downloaded windows live Messenger which I find works quite well with Jaws, but it seems I appear off line to all my contacts but my WLM tells me my status is online. Anyone had that problem and knows how to fix it?
Thanks.
The only main difference I can see between windows messenger and msn messenger, besides working well with different versions of screen readers, is with msn you can do voice chatting, and it sounds quite good. With windows messenger I have been unable to do this.
